Plans submitted to local authorities

CARDIFF City Football Club are pleased to confirm a planning application has been submitted to the local authorities for phase one of the development of Cardiff City Stadium, honouring Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s commitment to see our capacity grow in line with our ambitions.

Phase one development proposes to add a second tier to the club’s Ninian Stand and increase the capacity of Cardiff City Stadium to approximately 33,000.

The structure is set to incorporate over 5,000 extra general admission seats with the expansion also offering numerous commercial and hospitality opportunities to the football club.

Speaking of the project, Director of Cardiff City Football Club Steve Borley said: “The application follows a feasibility study carried out by the club earlier in the summer following City’s confirmed promotion to the Barclays Premier League, also giving fans an initial look at the concept in June.

“If approved in a September planning meeting, work on the development of the Ninian Stand will begin in early October 2013 with planned completion set for July 2014, ready for Cardiff City Stadium to host the UEFA European Super Cup between the winners of this seasons UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.”

Initial work will see no immediate effect to supporters within the stadium. The development will see the structure developed behind the current stand, with plans for the roof to be removed in stages. There will be no loss of seating during the phase one development process.

Steve Borley added: “The planning application was submitted to the relevant local authorities on Friday.

“We are extremely grateful for the guidance and support offered to us so far. We seek to make our approval and build the extension to what is a tight time frame.

“This news adds further excitement for everyone currently involved with the football club and this further investment demonstrates once again fantastic commitment from Tan Sri Vincent Tan."
