RAMBO BOUNCES BACK

Posted on: Mon 16 Nov 2009

Wales manager John Toshack revealed that man of the match Aaron Ramsey had been suffering from a back injury before the 3-0 win over Scotland at Cardiff City Stadium.

Tosh said: "Aaron had been a bit uncomfortable for the last few days and we didn't want to push him too much. He is one of a number of outstanding youngsters coming through and obviously he's pleased with that today.

"He played 55 minutes for the man of the match award - some of them had to do 90 minutes!

"Overall, we probably deserved to win, but we have to accept that we were a little bit uncomfortable at times. The Scots' finishing didn't match their approach play and I think 3-0 was a little bit exaggerated. But we got the goals, they were good goals and after the second goal we picked up a little bit of confidence.

"We didn't have a particularly good start ,but after the third goal it was a long way back for the Scots. That said, in all honesty I don't think 3-0 was a fair reflection of the game after 45 minutes. The Scots weren't as bad as that scoreline and we weren't as good. I thought our goalkeeper was outstanding today. He made important saves at the right time.

"Our lads can gain a lot of confidence from that performance today. Early on, Scotland were on top of our goal a,little too easily for my liking but the first goal helped a lot - I'm not taking anything away from our lads, though, because we did score three goals in 45 minutes.

"I thought we could have had a penalty, and when David Marshall came out and handled the ball it was a sending off offence. I think it was one of those ';friebndly' decisions by the ref."

Commenting on the 13,844 attendance, Tosh said: "I'd like to thank the people who turned up today on a wicked day weather wise. I think this could be the start of a superb relationship  for Wales at Cardiff City Stadium."

Rambo said: "I really enjoyed playing in behind the strikers. It was a good team performance. We stuck at it. We were under the cosh for the first 15 or 20 minutes but then we came out and played and got a few goals.

"With my goal I was a bit fortunate with the rebound but I think the defender handed it on to me and it bounced in front of me. I was happy with the goal but happier with the result."
