DAVE: NO COMMITMENT COMPLAINTS

Posted on: Sun 08 Aug 2010

Dave Jones admitted that his squad lacked the sharpness required to see often men Sheffield United at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, though outlined that there could be no question over the commitment of his players on our opening day of the Championship season.

"I think we deserve more because of the play," he said after the game. "We dominated the second half and it was up to us to break them down. I just think that had we been two or three games into the season we would have been sharper and brighter around the box - and then you go and win the game.

"I don't think anybody can complain that we didn't try, maybe just lacked that little bit of sharpness and creativity when it mattered at the death. You need games for that, while you can forget pre-season because they're tippy tappy games. But I said that my players would be up for it today and they certainly were.

"There was nothing in it in the first half. I thought that the goal we scored was a good goal. I don't know what the linesman saw, the smallest player on the pitch against the biggest. And if he's touched him it's got to have been the slightest touch I've ever seen.

"That should have been a goal, we make a mistake and they score. They get a lad sent off and then it's one way traffic. They've got no complaints with the sending off. It's unfortunate for the boy as there's no malice in it whatsoever. But he's high and his momentum has taken him that way."

Pressroom talk then turned towards our recent embargo being lifted, to which Dave was happy to report, "Now the transfer embargo has been lifted I have spoken to the Malaysian owners who assure me that they are in for the long haul and recognise that players need to come into the club.

"I took a gamble by letting players go and waited for the club to be out of the embargo and I will be disappointed if another two players are not here in the next few days."
