Jason Koumas played his first 90 minutes of football in more than six months at London Road on Tuesday evening. Although the 2-1 defeat to Peterborough was disappointing, Jason was happy to get the playing time under his belt.
"I've now got a full game of football in the bank and I'm looking forward to Portsmouth on the weekend," said the midfielder. "It was a struggle in the second half though. I started to feel it a lot out there, but six months out of action is a long time. There were a few of us out there who were struggling for fitness and it told.
"I felt great in the first half, but after only three weeks training it was always going to catch up with me. I'll train hard again now in these three days before the weekend and I'm sure I'll feel better by then. I hope to be involved at Portsmouth but I'm still some way from being fit enough to start in Championship games. Hopefully in a week or two I'll be fully fit and ready for anything."
Peterborough's second half fightback stunned the Bluebirds, and Koumas felt that 'City missed chances early on to seal the win.
"I had two great chances in the first half and should have put at least one of those away," he said. "I felt we needed that second goal in the first half and that proved to be the case as the second half showed. We were comfortable in the first half but needed a cushion. We should have got that but didn't take our chances.
As for the upcoming international break following the weekend's fixtures, Jason sees that as being valuable time, saying: "The international break after Pompey comes at the right time for me. I'm looking at using that fortnight to get myself to the level I want to be at and I'm sure I'll be feeling myself again then.
"Before that though we're going to Fratton Park and we're going there to win. I think everyone will see a different performance from us on Saturday. We got a great win against Doncaster last weekend and we want to go on a run; we have the squad available to us to do that.
