Of the match he said, "I think towards the end we maybe tired a bit, but overall I think we deserved the three points. It was a great result and we just need to keep it going. We had a chance to maybe get more goals than we did after a great performance in the first half, but luckily we managed to see it our and get another one at the right time in the second half. We're delighted."

Rae also levelled praise at the team performance, including further sterling work from Paul Parry and an impressive first league start for 17-year-old Aaron Ramsey - the emerging young Welsh International shone in the centre deputising for the injured Stephen McPhail. Gavin also confirmed that City 'keeper Michael Oakes was a little dazed and confused, but should be ok to get straight back into first team matters.

"Paul got another goal and played really well," said Rae. "He's doing brilliant upfront and gives us another option with his pace and he's causing teams problems. You can see it right thought the team.

"I'm trying to help Aaron through it, but to be fair he doesn't need that much help because he's got so much ability. If Aaron keeps his head down and works hard he's got every chance to get to the top because he's got everything.

"I saw Oakesy after the game and he's feeling a bit better now but he did get a bad one. Hopefully he'll be fine."

Next up of course comes another difficult trip to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday. Cardiff visit Stoke City for what has become one of the rivalries to look towards of the season.

Of the trip he said, "Every game is hard but I think we can go there and be confident. The first game of the season down here was a hard one, but we'll go there to do a job to the best of our ability."
