CANCER RESEARCH WALES
Score a goal in front City's supporters and raise funds for Cancer Research Wales!
Cancer Research Wales is organising a fundraising 5 a-side football tournament - with a difference! The top two teams from the knockout tournament, which will take place at Powerleague off Manor Way, Whitchurch, Cardiff, on April 20th will go on to battle it out in a penalty shoot out on the pitch at Ninian Park in front of 18,000 people during half time of Cardiff City's last game of the season on May 4th.
Coleen Watkins of Cancer Research Wales said: "We are so grateful to Cardiff City Football Club for allowing us to hold the penalty shoot out on the pitch at half time, and also to Powerleague for lending us their 5 a-side pitches for the knockout tournament. We'd also like to say a huge thank you to Mujibs Restaurant in Caerphilly Rd, Cardiff for providing food during the knockout tournament."
Coleen is hoping that up to 48 teams will take part in the competition - each raising a minimum of £150.00 per team to take part. "Hopefully, the opportunity to have a fun day with friends at the knockout tournament, coupled with a once in a lifetime chance to experience what it feels like to be a professional player in front of 18,000 people will attract as many teams as possible. This is a fantastic idea, and will help to raise funds towards our £1 million appeal to fund exciting new research into developing new diagnostic tests for prostate cancer and new treatments for prostate and breast cancer."
The knockout tournament will take place between 11.00am and 4.30pm on Sunday 20th April. Anyone wishing to enter a team or requiring further information should contact Cancer Research Wales on: (029) 2031 6976.
