A bad night of Carling Cup action has resulted in ten man Cardiff City exit the competition at the hands of local rivals Swansea.

In a tightly fought encounter, both teams lacked a cutting edge and went into the break on equal terms with missed chances coming for both.

The referee was involved throughout, happily producing cards throughout - Joe Ledley the first of many to be shown a yellow in the match.

Swansea took the lead in the second half, after fifty five minutes and a free kick that Gomez saw hit the deck and rebound over Enckelman. The night then turned worse for Cardiff with Steve McPhail harshly sent off for a challenge on Gomez - from there coming back was too much to ask, with Cardiff out of the competition in the third round.
