Manager Jones pledged that his players will be out to bury the memory of Saturday's horror show at home to QPR. He said: "It's done, it's gone, we've got to move on and learn from it. We have another game against a Premier League side to go out there and get back on track.
"We're up and down at the moment. On Thursday morning after beating Reading we were high as kites and then Sunday we're down in the doldrums. We will go out and try to get back to the levels we are capable of, then we have a chance of beating anybody.
"We haven't got the consistency we would want at this club. I'm not looking for excuses, but we've changed a lot of players, including the back four and the keeper, We're trying to find a consistency level that we had for a long time last year because the team was more established.
"This division is full of inconsistencies because bottom can beat top. The ones that can perform consistently at the moment are at the top. On Saturday, it was as if our players' twins had turned up and couldn't play. We can change the back, we can change midfield but we can't change the front line because we haven't got the players to change it.
"We are playing a Premier League side and knowing the expectations at this club, we'll have to win that game to get back on track. Bad performances happen, but we must make sure they don't happen too often, or we'll end up bottom of the table instead of sixth, which is where we were last time I looked.
"The players mustn't be fearful and play safety football which gets you nowhere. There will be changes tomorrow because some players have been champing at the bit and need to play. They will get their opportunity. I'd have made changes whatever happened on Saturday.
"We are the underdogs at Villa and the players must go and give their all. We've got a big following going and we want to put on a show for our fans. I don't relish being underdogs - we'd rather be top dogs - but we're playing a top six Premier side and it will be a tough battle. We will have to be at our best to get anything out of it.
"Villa are a massive club with fantastic support. I've never understood the philosophy about putting out weakened teams in Cup competitions. I put out a team to get a result and Martin O'Neill will do the same.
"There are only two or three clubs capable of winning the Premier title, then then that leaves you the two Cups. We got to the the FA Cup final a couple of years ago, maybe because Premier teams didn't take it seriously, If I were a Premier League chairman spending vast amounts of money, I would have wanted to know why three of the semi-finalists that year were Championship clubs and not Premier clubs.
"Cups are becoming more important for Premier clubs because if you finish outside the top six, they are a way into Europe. It becomes more and more important for clubs to do well in Cup competitions, and that's the downside for clubs below the Premier. But we want to go as far as we can and we will go out thinking we can win it. I've never gone into a game thinking I can't get something out of it.
"I've done battle with Martin O'Neill as a player and a manager, and Villa are a fantastic club. He has shown me around their training ground, a superb facility which is one of the top five in the country, up there with Manchester United and Chelsea. It's something to aspire to."
Dave revealed that 17-year-old full back Adam Matthews, a groin injury victim at Reading, could have a chance of facing Villa, but other players on the injured list are still battling for fitness.
