LEICESTER MATCH OFF

Posted on: Mon 21 Dec 2009

Cardiff City's Championship match with Leicester City has been called off by referee Michael Oliver.

Mr Oliver made a 10.30 inspection at Cardiff City Stadium and declared the pitch unplayable.

His decision came despite efforts by the ground staff, who worked through the night in an attempt to save the fixture.

Cardiff City Football Club would like to apologise to all of our supporters and those of Leicester City for the postponement of today's fixture. Our new stadium is fitted with state of the art undersoil heating. Regrettably the final commissioning to ensure that it was fully operational had not been completed. This is due to take place in the coming week.

We did arrange for alternative frost prevention measures to be put in place. Unfortunately, despite the fact that our ground staff worked through the night, these were not sufficient to save today's match.

Once the final commissioning has been completed this week, it is to be hoped that such postponements will be a thing of the past.

*No new date has been set for the match. Fans who bought tickets for the game are entitled to a refund or to use their tickets on the re-arranged date.
