ROSS; OUR PETERBOROUGH WARNING

Posted on: Wed 27 Jan 2010

Ross McCormack revealed that the Cardiff City players were warned not to allow a repeat of the Peterborough disaster after they raced into a 4-0 half-time lead at Bristol City.

The Bluebirds drew 4-4 at London Road last month after throwing away a 4-0 interval lead, and Ross said: "The Peterborough result played on our minds at half time. We were reminded by the gaffer and by the senior players in the dressing room that it had happened once before and it had better not happen again.

"But the way we started the second half with a goal to make it 5-0 showed we were in no mood for a repeat."

Ross scored twice from midfield in the 6-0 demolition of Bristol City to follow up his first goal of the season in Saturday's 4-2 FA Cup win over Leicester. He said: "I've been saying for a while that I just needed a run in the team and I'd need one goal to fall to me and then I'd start scoring. My first one today off Gavin Rae's attempt was what I needed to get me going. My target now is double figures for the season."

He also laid on the pass of the night to set up Michael Chopra for the first of his two goals, and Ross said: "I picked Chops out with the pass and he did the rest. Chops went through a barren spell but he'll always get goals, so will Jay, we've got Whitts and Burkey will chip in. I'll score a few as well.

"We've got Newcastle and Chelsea coming up but they're not in our heads. We've got Doncaster on Saturday and then we'll start to think about St James' Park.

"We didn't expect that result tonight - we expected a tight game. The instructions to me and Whitts on the other side of midfield were to tuck inside and keep it tight, get to half time and take it from there. But to be 4-0 up at half time was a dream."
