JAY'S PLAY-OFF PLEDGE

Posted on: Sun 31 Jan 2010

Goal hero Jay Bothroyd vowed after his late, late winner against Doncaster that Cardiff City would reach the play-offs this season.

The Bluebirds striker said: "We should have put it to bed in the first half when Chops had a few chances. In the second half they were on top, but we got the winner and that's what counts. I headed it and the keeper went to parry it, he pushed it and it went into the net.

"Credit to the boys again for a resilient performance. We dug in, worked hard and ground out a result. It was important to win after beating Bristol City 6-0, because if we hadn't beaten Doncaster it would all have gone to waste.

"The fans are a bit upset with the chairman at the moment, but he has held his hands up and apologised. There's a demo outside, but we are all together as a club and the chairman is part of the club. We all want to push in the right direction.

"We can reach the play-offs this season. We missed out by a goal last time, but I'm sure we can do it this year. We'll learn from our mistakes. We were 4-0 up at Peterborough and they came back and scored four, so when we played Bristol City, we were nervous at 4-0! We're learning together and have a great team spirit."
