Stephen McPhail was taken to hospital with a rib injury as Cardiff City counted the cost of their 2-0 Championship win over Peterborough.
And Jay Bothroyd suffered ankle ligament damage as manager Dave Jones faced the prospect of losing both men for Saturday's FA Cup fifth round tie at Chelsea, along with Darcy Blake, who was taken off with back trouble.
Macca, named skipper for the match, went off injured in only his second game back after three months out ill and injured. Dave said: "Stevie's gone off to hospital. He's breathing OK but he's had a bang in the same place he had a knock before, in the area of the pancreas, so we've got to make sure that's right. Darcy has been struggling with his back and his calves, so that's a problem, and Jay has picked up another injury.
"I haven't got a clue who's going to turn up on Saturday for Chelsea. I'm thinking of bringing my own boots. It's all hands to the pump at the moment. We're short of numbers and all credit to the players, they are digging deep and the fans are appreciating it. They're not getting on our backs because they can see we're short at the moment.
"Chops and Gabor felt a little bit ill before the game today but they knew they had to play. and Jay is carrying a thigh injury. The players are being absoloutely magnificent. They have shown fantastic character and determination.
"It was a disciplined performance from us. Peterborough had just the one chance which Dave Marshall saved comfortably. It seemed quite a lethargic game but that was because of the way they set up, and it was up to us to break it down.
"Because of the way Peterborough played on Saturday, we knew if we has the wide fellas we could get at them. When we play Ross and Whitts there, we're a little bit tighter and we're narrow. So it was a case of giving Ross a rest because he's worked hard over the last few games he's played. It worked for us and it was a well-drilled performance.
"When Burkey plays, it gives us more width, and that was a great finish by him for the first goal. Today we needed an out-and-out winger on the pitch to force them back because they played three centre halves. So as long as we kept our discipline and shape, we knew the goals would come. Jay was unlucky when he hit the post, and we could have been well ahead by half time.
"Jim Gannon has got a big job on his hands and it's great to see him at this level. he's earned his opportunity and he's got some good players. The one thing you know about him is that he'll be well organised.
"We should have taken maximum points at Peterborough and today was about seeing it out and not getting caught. We needed the second goal just to calm things down. It's a good three points for us, a comfortable three points and that's the pleasing thing because in the past we might have just picked up a point or even lost it due to lack of concentration."
