The injury-hit Bluebirds face the FA Cup holders in the fifth round at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and City boss Dave said: "We've got to believe we can get something there, otherwise what's the point in turning up?

"It's a daunting task. We go there without Jay, we're waiting on Darcy, it's going to be very difficult. We can't even fill the bench. But it's another game that we are going to compete in, and compete hard.

"I watched Chelsea last night at Everton and I watched them against Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. They're full of internationals. The team is littered with internationals, world-class players. When I watched them it was a case of spot the non-international - there aren't any.

"The tie is something that players at this club should be looking forward to playing, regardless of whether we've got to put kids in. They've still got to go out and do their best, and that's all I ever ask of them.

"We've got to go there with a lot of pride and determination and running and give the players who might not normally be involved their chance to stake their claim.

"We have to be confident, we have to be brave and we have to work our socks off because Chelsea will make us work and if we're not prepared to run and chase and see whether there's something that can happen, you'll never know. Miracles do come true - they just take that little bit longer!

"It's no good going there in a defeatist mood because it is a daunting task, of course it is, but even if we had my full squad of players it would still be a daunting task.

"Whoever plays for us must do their stuff and do it to the best of their ability. If they do that, nobody in the club can have a go at them.

"In my book, we are doing fantastically. We have had the same group of players all season, we've lost four midfield players who would grace anybody's midfield in this division, and they were four big players for us. We should have replaced Riccy Scimeca, Stevie McPhail, Joe Ledley and Gavin Rea, but we couldn't.

"The supporters have been fantastic and with the majority the penny is starting to drop that the players we've got out there are doing their best. In the games that we've played the support has been superb and in some cases, that's kept the players going.

"We are asking the same bunch of players to go game in game out and be at their best and when we are at our best we're a match for anybody. I am really proud of my players because they're giving everything they've got."
