MY BLUEBIRDS WILL FLY

Posted on: Sun 14 Mar 2010

Manager Dave Jones promised that Cardiff City are "set to fly" after their improved performance at Leicester, where they lost 1-0 to their promotion rivals.

Dave said: "As the players who have come back get sharper and get more games under their belt, we'll be more consistent. We were a bit unfortunate and the mistake we made from the throw in the first half basically cost us the match,

"We didn't miss Chops up front - Jay and Ross played well - but bringing back Whitts, McPhail and Kennedy meant we were able to control the game far better than we have done for a long time. So I can see some light at the end of the tunnel, even though we lost. With a bit more luck we might have got a goal.

"We live to fight another day. We're still in the top six, so something's going for us.

"The score was not a fair reflection. I think we deserved something from the game. We're getting there. We dominated for long spells but there was a little rustiness with the players coming back and that told on us in the end.

"We look like we're getting back to some passing and movement because we have the likes of Whittingham and McPhail back and they are big players for us. When they get a bit sharper I can see us getting back what we've been missing.

"The goal came from a throw that we didn't shut down. There was a little bit of inexperience in our younger players but that's what costs you sometimes at this level.

"It was a poor goal. Leicester had a good spell in the first half but for long spells in the second half we controlled it and with a little bit of sharpness about us, which I think we'll get from the players coming back,we'll push on.

"The players know they have played reasonably well and put a good shift in. Ross looked sharper and brighter. I can honestly say once these players have had a few more games and training sessions, then watch us go.

"They showed determination, and they are angry and annoyed that they didn't get anything out of the game but they shouldn't be disappointed in their performances today, There are a lot of games coming up in March and the more football they play, the sharper they'll get.

"This was a massive improvement on the Ipswich game, but we were bringing back quality players. We missed a cutting edge, but it will come.

"Our players should be pretty confident after today. We didn't  get the result but you can see the performance is starting to come back. Once it does, we'll fly.

"Some of the results have gone for us and we are still in the top six. I thought coming in after today's match we might by seventh or eighth after losing, but that goes to show how crazy this division is."
