Bluebirds head to the Ricoh
Cardiff are looking to beat Coventry on Tuesday evening to secure sixth place in the Championship after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Leicester City.
If Coventry manage to beat the Bluebirds though they would overtake us in the league and potentially take the sixth place play-off berth. That would depend on whether seventh place Blackpool are able to beat ninth place Sheffield United at Bramall Lane - if they are, then they could take sixth spot if the Bluebirds suffer defeat. If United manage to beat Blackpool then they could move level on points with the Bluebirds, but Cardiff would stay above the Blades on goal difference regardless of tonight's result at Coventry.
Tight at the top
Newcastle United face Scunthorpe United on Wednesday evening and if the Magpies beat the Iron then they will extend their lead at the top to seventy-six points. If West Brom manage to beat Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium and Newcastle lose, then West Brom would be just a point behind the leaders.
If Swansea beat West Brom then they could go a point behind Nottingham Forest, currently in third. If Forest win and the Baggies lose however, then Forest would be just two points behind them.
Fifth place Leicester City need a win against Crystal Palace to potentially move level on points with Swansea. If the Swans lose at home against West Brom, then Leicester could go fourth in the league on goal difference. Tenth place Middlesbrough meanwhile face eighteenth place Derby County on Tuesday and if Boro get the three points from that match and Sheffield United lose or draw, then they could go ninth with fifty points.
Bluebirds versus Sky Blues - City looking for the double
Cardiff City go to the Ricoh Arena with three wins and a draw in their last five meetings with Coventry. Cardiff won the latest encounter earlier this season 2-0, thanks to a Peter Whittingham penalty and a goal by Anthony Gerrard. Gerrard scored his first goal for the club in the fifth minute, heading home from a cross by skipper Stephen McPhail. Whitts scored from the spot early in the second half after Jay Bothroyd was brought down in the box by Stephen Wright.
What the boss said
Swansea fan and Coventry City manager Chris Coleman said that although he is hoping his side can beat the Bluebirds this evening, it is just another game. Speaking to local press, Coleman said:
"I am a Swansea boy and there is always a bit of rivalry. But there is no added significance or burning desire to win, just because it's Cardiff City. Cardiff City are a good Championship side and they are an obstacle we have got to get over."
