DAVE: LADS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE

Posted on: Thu 08 Jul 2010

Dave Jones was in good spirits earlier this week, as the Bluebirds got back into the swing of pre-season training ahead of Thursday's friendly fixture with Bath City at Twerton Park (kick-off 7pm, listen live on Cardiff City Player).

And following the game against the newly promoted Conference National side, City will fly out to Portugal for their pre-season tour.

"I went to Kuala Lumpar early in the summer to make arrangements for the pre-season tour, but unfortunately, as we now know, that had to be cancelled," said Dave.

"Fortunately we always had a plan B, and that's now in place with us travelling to the Algarve (Portugal). We've got a couple of games lined up, one of which will be against a top Portuguese side.

"We know the place in Portugal well so there's nothing that's going to be a surprise to us. The boys are looking forward to getting out there and training; it's all about getting fit now ahead of the new season, but they're already looking in good shape to be fair to them."

The Bluebirds began pre-season preparations earlier this week, but did so in slightly different surroundings.

"We've been training at the University of Glamorgan this week where the Academy lads train, as our usual training pitches at the Vale of Glamorgan are still being readied for the new campaign. We'll be back at the Vale once we return from Portugal though," the manager explained.

"We always arrange a friendly fixture prior to touring and the game against Bath will be an opportunity for the lads to get out on the field together ahead of travelling. It's just a chance to get them all out there and get their legs and lungs working again."

City return to the UK later in the month in time for fixtures at Notts County on July 24th and then at home to Deportivo la Coruna at Cardiff City Stadium on July 31st (Buy tickets here).

"We're hoping to bring players in before then, and although we haven't brought in many yet, there's no need to panic," said Dave.

"We're trying to keep hold of our good players and then looking to add; we've got a couple of players lined up who we're interested in and fingers crossed we'll be able to get them."
