DAVE'S READY FOR SHEFF UTD TEST

Posted on: Fri 06 Aug 2010

Dave Jones is looking forward to facing Sheffield United on Sunday (kick-off 12.35pm), knowing that they'll be tough opponents.

But the gaffer wasn't willing to single out any one side as promotion favourites on Friday, seeing the 2010/11 Championship as being tigher than ever.

"Sheffield United are being tipped for promotion but they always will be because they're a good side," said Dave. "A lot of sides are fancied this year though; there are no obvious candidates to run away with it.

"I've no idea how the Championship will play out this time around. What I do know is that probably every club in the league will be setting their sights on getting out of the division. There won't be many clubs, if any, who aren't talking about promotion. That's how difficult this league has become."

With reference to new signing Jason Koumas, Dave continued: "Jason's available, but he's not ready yet; he's probably going to need ten more games to get up to speed. What we don't want to do with him is throw him in and find he's not up to the pace of the game. He's done most of his running and fitness training, but we now need to get him back kicking, twisting and turning so he's ready for game scenarios."
