Posted on: Sat 21 Aug 2010

Turn on the npower ... "I'LL BE THERE"

It's been a landmark week for Cardiff City Football Club with the homecoming capture of Welsh Captain Craig Bellamy signalling a real intent to bring new and improved electricity to the npower Championship.

To celebrate Craig's return to the Welsh capital, the Bluebirds have proudly teamed up with Cardiff Council and new Championship sponsors npower to bring a unique and special twist to the signing.

Giant projected images of Craig, along with his Cardiff City team-mates are set to be displayed on the walls of Cardiff Castle on Friday evening from 8:30pm until midnight.

The images of the Cardiff City squad, on the Kingsway-side of the castle, will be accompanied by the "I'll Be There" club message and ethos.

Cardiff City Chief Executive Gethin Jenkins and Cardiff Council leader Rodney Berman are set to flick the switch to light up the walls of one of Cardiff's most iconic landmarks. It's a one off occasion that will really place the giants of Cardiff City in the heart of the city.

Gethin Jenkins said: "We are delighted to have secured the services of Craig. As current Wales Captain Craig is a fantastic addition to our squad - and he will no doubt add to the quality players that we already have here as we aim to secure our long term dream of reaching the Premier League. I would like to thank Championship sponsors npower and Cardiff Council for helping support the unique event on Friday evening. I'm sure that all Bluebirds supporters and visitors to Cardiff will enjoy the occasion ahead of our match against Doncaster on Saturday."

Cllr Berman said: "Craig Bellamy's arrival at Cardiff City this week has created a real buzz around the city. His capture is a real coup for the club and I'm sure City fans and indeed, the whole of Cardiff, are hoping he can be the catalyst to inspire the team towards the Premier League. A successful Cardiff City in the top flight would have enormous benefits for the capital so I'm hoping that having come so close last season, now with Craig Bellamy in the team, they can achieve the goal this season. I would like to officially welcome him home and urge the whole city to get behind Dave Jones' men in this season's championship campaign."

Emma Collins - Head of Sponsorship npower added: "It's not surprising that one of Britain's leading strikers transferring to his home-team has turned into one of the biggest sports stories in recent weeks. There can be no question of Craig Bellamy's talent, the same can be said of the quality of the current line-up of teams in the npower Championship. We are delighted to support Cardiff City in celebrating the return of the Welsh International back to arguably the most exciting league in the world, the npower Championship."
