LENNIE POST FOREST

Posted on: Tue 04 Jan 2005

Lennie Lawrence spoke to the press and Cardiff City World after the Forest victory, coming from a dressing room full of players on a New Year high.

We asked the boss of his match thoughts.

Of the first half, Lawrence said, "We weren't upset, but at half time we were disbelieving that we were going in at nil-nil. That was as well as we've played in a long time going forward.

"The players took the bull by the horns and we attacked well - our moving and passing was good.

"We've created chances and you're left thinking that after a good spell and forty five minutes like that where they haven't threatened at all, you want to be one or two up.

"Fortunately we were able to continue it in the second half - throughout all of it apart from one or two isolated counter attacks. Once we got the second goal, that was game over really.

"I'm well pleased."

The game although the second result and solid performance in three days was the first time the majority of Ninian Park fans had seen the galvanised Bluebirds firing on all cylinders.

Lawrence reflected on past similarities and went on to pay tribute to his squad after a gruelling Christmas schedule.

"Leeds and Leicester were similar, but not quite so dominant," he said. "The especially pleasing thing for me is that it's four games in nine days, which is a mental and physical examination. They passed it with flying colours.

"Some of them played the whole four - Gabbs, Warner, Barker, Rhys coming back from injury, Jobi, Cameron, Thorne - and they're all fine. I'm well pleased with their physical fitness and their conditioning.

"We did look sharp and we did keep the tempo up right the way through."

The victory marks a total of eight points from four games and the first two wins on the bounce for Lawrence and his Bluebirds.

"It's much needed and I've spoken about the players spirit and togetherness," continued Lawrence. "They've really made an effort to put it together and fortunately that's been reflected in the results.

"2005 has started great for us. 2004 had started terribly for us. So hopefully it's a sign of better things to come."

And of the penalty taker situation? Lennie and Terry Burton were more than animated when it looked as if anyone but Thorne would take it. What were his thoughts on this?

"In the past it's been 'so and so' has missed one and move on," answered Lawrence. "I've had enough of all that. I don't know that Richard Langley was planning to take it - no disrespect to Richard who I'm sure could have buried it equally as well.

"But we've had all of that before - and Thorney's the man."

We'll continue our look at the Forest win with more pictures from the second half soon. Lennie has also given his thoughts on Paul Parry, Captain Kavanagh, Inamoto possibilities and the FA Cup game against Blackburn.

We also will publish the post press conference video from the S.T.A.G - a collection of City fans giving their views and hopes for the new Stadium. This will be available to ALL, with no CardiffCity World subscription required.
