We have to say that the quality of submission to our August writing competition was first class, making selecting an eventual winner very difficult indeed. It took a while, but after some in depth consideration, we have a winner.
To refresh, the challenge was to summarise the month of August in words, with a limit of one hundred and fifty words to keep it tight and to the point.
Entries were submitted on our Official Messageboard at www.ninianpark.com - with many quality entries, be they reports, poems or other forms of writing.

After the closing day on Monday September 11th, we can reveal that our winner has been selected as ccfc_jr1927, with The Wingnut coming in a close second.
ccfc_jr1927 is ironically living in Luton and will be invited to Ninian Park on Saturday when the Hatters come to Cardiff. He will go behind the scenes as our guest with the press, watch the post match press conference and then conduct an exclusive interview himself with one of our players after the game.
Congratulations to our winner and thanks very much to everyone who took the time to submit an entry.

Until then, here is the winning entry, followed by the three runners up. As you can see, selecting a winner wasn't easy at all !!
C ardiff City have made it to the summit of tier two,
A nd the whole of the capital is at last , a massive sea of blue.
R eading did it last year and ran away from the chasing pack,
D efinetly what we need to do to bring the good times back.
I n the month of August we cast aside the likes of Leeds & Brum,
F or all of us the journey had only just begun.
F inding out who we could beat and really worry teams
C ometh the next eleven men, they'll be worried, so it seems.
I f the rest below are thinking its a fluke that we are top,
T ry watching our boys in action and those rumours will then stop.
Y ears ago was the last time that we sat where we are now.
A nd Dave Jones and all his staff should take a massive bow.
R ecords already broken for our best start to a campaign ever,
E asy title win for us, Never say "Never".
T he table doesn't lie,
O nly one team leading the way,
P erhaps the skies in September will be blue instead of grey.

Runners Up
Newcomers Barnsley our first match be
Away to the team who put paid to Swansea.
Chopra, McNaughton, Gilbert, McPhail
Boost the Bluebirds towards the Holy Grail
A Thommo volley, Ledley after a break
Of such quality and pace, Barnsley couldn't take.
Good win to start and performance to boot
Still no Koumas, has Sam found the loot?
Hartson's in town on a Tuesday night
18000 crowd is a wonderful sight.
Brom take the lead but City look mean
And they share the spoils in the best game I've seen.
Coventry battled hard for a draw
With Chopra up front, bound to score.
Leeds kick off after our blood
But fail to stop the mighty Flood.
We crash out to Barnet in the Carling Cup
But a top of the table clash sees tickets sell up.
The stars of Birmingham fail to shine bright
And awesome City top the table outright.
The Wingnut

A false dawn or a new beginning? Anyone remotely connected with Ninian Park will have posed that question a thousand times this month and can hardly believe the answer. Supporters brought up on an annual diet of unjustified hope and eventual despair suddenly find themselves with a team of skill and resolution that thrives on success. They find themselves with a diamond prospector as a manager who has found players who sparkle and shine at his bidding.
When they lift their eyes from the extraordinary deeds performed before them they believe they see the promised land at the end of Leckwith Road. Not yet as substantial as they would wish but, given the wonders performed by their enigmatic, chinese-speaking talisman, they now believe their arrival there is only a matter of time.
All this after only five matches? Of course! The non-believers have joined the faithful and miracles are possible.

Awaking August
You could hear the roar of fans has they made a mighty sound
20,000 Bluebirds were locked into our ground
On the pitch we set new standards, it was a gallant sight
As the biggest team in the Championship were given a might fright.
Barnsley Coventry and Leeds had had fallen to our feet
In the other game against West Brom we had them in retreat
One blip was the Koumas deal, which we were forced to shelve
He was the one that got away, but we had another twelve.
After winning four and drawing one the summit had been reached
And it has been 384 minutes since our goal has been breached
We've been stirred again with a passion that is defiant
Yes let's hope that Dave Jones has at last awoken the sleeping giant!
