Snapshot: Cardiff City reeled back the years as the introduction to their lavish new home with Club legends and Celebrity fans strutting their stuff on the soon to be hallowed turf.
In a match that was always going to be more about the occasion than a spectacle, Graham Kavanagh provided the one moment of genuine quality with a magnificently fitting opening goal to the new home.
Report: Jason Perry can lay claim to having the first shot on target at the new stadium after latching onto a Nathan Blake flick-on following a cross by Paul Bodin from the left.
Lennie's lads responded in kind with Leo-Fortune West getting on the end of a Carl Dale knock-down before striking a rasping drive across goal. Gavin Ward could only push the shot out to Neil Ardley who was unselfish in looking to play the pass but blew a great chance in doing so.
Eddie May's side nearly prized open the deadlock minutes later as Cohen Griffiths skipped down the right flank and sent over a great cross for Nathan Blake who couldn't quite reach the ball with his head so opted to palm it down instead.
A frightening display of agility from the evergreen looking Leo Fortune-West turned Phil Dwyer at the edge of the box only to drag his shot wide.
Jason Perry did his best to raise the entertainment factor with a well executed gymnastic floor routine following the slightest of touches from Andy Legg.
A bizarre refereeing decision awarded the Whites an indirect free-kick just yards out that Danny Gabbidon wore painfully square between the shoulder blades.
Leo was still looking devastating up-top for Lennie's Lads however; his accuracy might have just deserted him with a handful of chances going begging for the big man.
A defensive mix-up between Gabbs and Jeff Eckhart allowed in Nathan Blake in front of The Grange End but, he'd also left his shooting boots at home as he dragged his effort wide from the left.
Eddie May could have Jason Perry to thank for keeping the scores tied at nil when he foiled Graham Kavanagh with a lunging boot from close range.
Carl Dale came inches from opening the game and the stadiums account when he got on the end of a Neil Ardley corner only for Ward to turn the ball around the post.
Finally the first goal of the new stadium did arrive and fittingly it was huge club legend Graham Kavanagh who scored it with something truly special with a curling effort from the edge of the area that eased into the top corner at the Canton End.
Kevin Nugent had the best chances to level for May's side yet he could only nod over a Bodin cross first of all appealing valiantly for a penalty for a push in the back by Eckhart (Jeff looked as innocent as a schoolboy which probably meant he was actually as guilty as sin). Next he pounced on some defensive confusion to play himself in but missed a golden chance when he slid the ball wide of Erwin Sak and his right hand post.

As the second half arrived so did the substitute's en-masse which was a fans delight but a match reporter's nightmare so apologies for what could frankly be the most incoherent review of events know to man.
Half-time replacement John Williams picked up where Fortune-West had left off in the first period by looking sprightly and dangerous up-front for Lennie's side. Early on Williams combined with Craig Middleton at the edge of the area with the former lifting an audacious effort over both Ward and his crossbar.
Kurt Nogan had a chance to double the lead for the Blue's when he blazed over from the edge of the area before Paul Sanderson came within inches of equalising against the run of play with a beautifully weighted curling shot that Sak did well to tip over. Sak was again to the rescue moments later making a great save off Christian Roberts who cut in from the right flank and drove a great shot towards goal.
When the inevitable equliaser arrived it was courtesy of the still very handy looking Paul Sanderson who netted with a near post-ish header that was helped in by goal-line defender John Lewis for a quality comedy goal.
Jaime Baulch arrived off the bench and was immediately into the action with a strong shot from the edge of the area that Ward could only push away before his side regained the lead with another comedy goal - This time an own goal by Derek Brazil.
Sanderson continued his impressive cameo with something that resembled an over-head kick which pinged off the post following some strong work down the right by Roberts.
John Williams eventually put the game to bed, scything through the Whites defence before sliding the ball home past replacement 'keeper Steve Borley and into the bottom corner.
