20. PETER ENCKELMAN: GOALKEEPER
Cardiff signed Finnish Under 21 International goalkeeper Peter Enckelman on loan from Blackburn Rovers in January 2008, with the deal becoming a permanent transfer during the summer of 2008 after impressing during his stay. He began his career in his hometown club TPS Turku before making the move to the Premier League with Aston Villa in 1999. Peter found playing time hard to come by due to competition for places. A move to Blackburn Rovers then opened up as second choice to Brad Friedel in 2004, though through Friedel's form was unable to break into the first team. With the door open for a loan move, Peter agreed to a move to Cardiff City for the remainder of the 2007/08 season, coming in as first choice following the departure of Kasper Schmeichel. He impressed with his performances, remaining in the starting eleven for the rest of the Championship season, including our FA Cup run to the Wembley showpiece.
