Gavin began his senior career with Dundee and made 223 first-team appearances for them. A Scotland senior International, he was transferred to Rangers for £250,000 in January 2004. He captained them last season and left Ibrox at the end of 2006/07 as a free agent, joining Cardiff City in the summer of 2007.Season 2008 - 09
