Hereford 1 Cardiff City 2Teenage striker Josh Magennis cracked a match-winning double as City's team of comeback stars and kids won a reserve match at Hereford. Magennis, 19, fired City to victory after Hereford had taken a second-half lead.

The Bluebirds included Kevin McNaughton and Ross McCormack for this behind-closed-doors match at Edgar Street, with McNaughton playing his first game since damaging his ankle against Celtic in July, while McCormack followed on from his brief substitute appearance at Watford last Saturday.

Miguel Comminges played in a central defensive role alongside Paul Quinn and Warren Feeney made his first appearance of the season following a hip problem that required an operation. Hereford had five players in their squad who had been involved in the previous night's home win over Aldershot Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

City's starting line-up:
Enckelman, McNaughton, Quinn, Comminges, Capaldi, Evans Z, Taiwo, Scimeca, McCormack, Magennis and Feeney.

City went near after four minutes when Taiwo found Scimeca, but his shot was saved by Adamson. Almost half an hour passed by before the Bluebirds forced Adamson into another save when Scimeca gave McCormack a chance but his shot was saved by the diving keeper.
Hereford's only first-half chance came eight minutes before the interval when a fierce header by Manset from a Tolley free-kick was brilliantly saved by Enckelman, and a low-key first half ended without a goal with City having dominated possession.

City made three substitutions at the break, with McNaughton, McCormack and Feeney all going off, and two of City's youngsters - Kye Edwards and Jon Meades - plus one of the two triallists coming on. Hereford  took the lead three and a half minutes into the second half when Enckelman mis-punched Done's free kick from the left, and Adelsbury looped his header from eight yards into the net.

Hereford nearly scored a second fourteen minutes into the second half when Manset sent substitute Pongo into City's area, but he shot inches wide into the side-netting. City fought back and three minutes later were level. Scimeca sent Meades clear on the left, and his low cross split the Hereford defence for Magennis to score easily.

Tony Capaldi was replaced by Stephen Last, with Miguel Comminges switching to left-back, and City took the lead midway through the second half, Meades putting Magennis in possession in the Hereford area, the striker doing well to retain the ball from a defender's challenge and curling his shot into the corner of the net.

City made another substitution with fifteen minutes left, Comminges being replaced by Ibrahim Farah, and inside the last ten minutes Nathaniel Jarvis came on for two-goal Magennis. City were never really troubled after they had taken the lead.
