Stephen McPhail continued his path back to full fitness in a Reserve team fixture against Newport County on Tuesday afternoon.

'Macca' - who was named on the bench for the Bluebirds' 1-0 win at Swansea on Sunday - hasn't featured since picking up a hamstring injury against Stoke City back on January 18.

But a solid display in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Newport should see the Irishman push to feature in Saturday's nPower Championship clash with Scunthorpe United.

Other first-teamers to feature in the win were Chris Burke, Jon Parkin, Gavin Rae, Gabor Gyepes and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

It was Burke who scored the decisive goal with twenty minutes to play after an own-goal had given City the lead midway through the first-half. Newport pulled back a consolation goal with nine minutes to play.
