Cardiff City's Women's side faced a difficult match in round one of the South Wales Women's League Cup when they took on UWIC Ladies.

The sides drew 4-4 in their league fixture back in October so it was sure to be a close encounter. City, however, got off to a great start when Lisa Bird turned in the box to volley home one of the goals of the season and give the Bluebirds the lead. UWIC equalized from a free kick before a looping cross from Shannelle Edwards was misjudged by the away side's goalkeeper and found the net to restore City's lead. UWIC failed to defend a cross soon after and a low drive gave Cardiff a 3-1 lead going into the break. In the second half, UWIC were unlucky not to score, striking the crossbar and the City upright. Cardiff's defense stayed strong though, allowing the Bluebirds to progress in the cup.
