A dominant force in the Coventry City midfield from 2008-2011, Iceland Skipper Aron Gunnarsson signed for Cardiff City during the summer of 2011.
A relentless midfielder with a tough-tackling reputation and ability to drive forward with the ball, Aron began his professional career in his native Iceland before switching to top flight Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar in 2006 and then on to Coventry two years later. A key part of the Bluebirds 2012/13 Championship winning side with eight goals to his name that term, Aron continued his fine form for City in the Barclays Premier League.
He will forever be remembered in Cardiff City folklore as the scorer of the Club’s first ever Barclays Premier Goal – on August 25 2013, against Manchester City in a 3-2 win.
Aron starred on the international stage as he wore the armband throughout Iceland's heroic EURO 2016 campaign in France. He notably set up Ragnar Sigurdsson’s strike against England as the nation reached the Quarter Finals in their début at a major tournament.
