Having competed at non-league level, turning out for Skelmersdale Utd, Burscough and Southport, Craig signed for Plymouth Argyle in 2008. Two years later he joined Gus Poyet's Brighton & Hove Albion - from whom Malky Mackay signed the winger for Cardiff City in the summer 2012 transfer window.
After signing for City, Craig immediately established himself as a fans’ favourite with a superb début against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The wide man showed off his trademark pace and trickery to earn a free kick and penalty – both dispatched by an in-form Peter Whittingham on the day.
Craig’s Barclays Premier League debut came at home to Manchester United in a 2-2 draw in November 2013. The winger has continued to impress since, going on to score a stand-out goal at Newcastle United in a January 2014 F.A. Cup tie.
