Originally with Aston Villa whom he joined as a trainee, Peter signed a full professional deal with the Birmingham-based club in November 2002. He made 67 League and Cup appearances for Villa as well as having loan-spells with Burnley and Derby County, prior to his move to Cardiff City in January 2007.
An England under-21 international, Whitts soon became a first-team regular under then-manager Dave Jones, and was top-scorer for Cardiff City during the 2009/10 campaign with 25 goals in all competitions. An integral part of the Cardiff squad, the midfielder also flourished during the 2011/12 campaign, wearing the captain's armband on a number of occasions and scoring 12 goals.
City’s longest serving current player, Whitts was named in the Football Manager Team of the Decade in 2015.
