Malky Mackay praised his Cardiff City squad following Saturday's excellent 4-1 win.

Speaking to press after the game, the manager said: "I am delighted, absolutely delighted. First off, I'd like to thank Alan Pardew for bringing a very strong Newcastle squad today. I really enjoy a tough test and it was, playing against very good players. I'm delighted with the attitude and application of my players - we passed the ball very well in the first half and scored good goals.

And of his new signings on show, he added: "Jordon Mutch has not played a lot of football in the last couple of weeks with an injury, so it was great to get him on for forty-five minutes today.

"His play in the build-up to Joe Ralls' goal was fantastic. It was great to get Heidar out onto the pitch too, he's a proven Premiership centre-forward and showed great hold-up play at times.

"Also Etien Velikonja - to get him on and to see his runs going in behind people; we were playing some lovely balls in behind their defence - and he took his goal really well. Joe Lewis having come on for the last twenty minutes made a couple of saves as well, so I really think the new boys integrated well.

"There was a queue outside the club shop that was about a mile long last night. With 5,000 people here showing there is a feel-good factor at the club. Most of the fans realise that the club is trying to move forward, and everyone was behind that today.

"There's ten teams in this league who will be asked the same questions by the media regarding promotion. We have got to compete in the Championship this year. My thoughts are on how I can make this football club progress, and to take it forward even further."
