BIG THANKS ON THE BIG WRAP

Club News

This Christmas will be a memorable one for children across South Wales as Cardiff City supporters donated 1,044 presents to the Big Wrap be opened on Christmas morning by children who wouldn't otherwise have received anything.

The aim of the appeal was to get 1,000 presents and due to the superb generosity and kindness of our fans we have surpassed that total. As a club we have also donated 250 tickets for our home game against Ipswich. The children who received the gifts will be at the game and at half time will come on the pitch to say a big thank you to everyone who donated.

Last Christmas the Big Wrap charity supported children in need in the area of the Vale; however this Christmas, due to the generosity and support from the supporters, their reach has now spread across South Wales.

Things have moved at a great pace and next year - thanks to the support of Tan Sri Vincent Tan who personally donated £12,000 to the appeal – the campaign will be going national and we will collecting for The Big Wrap Wales. The charity will expand and reach right across the principality, bringing happiness and changing lives for children up and down the country next Christmas.

Julian Jenkins, Cardiff City Commercial Director said: “The Big Wrap is a fantastic initiative. We were surprised to hear the numbers of children in the area that wouldn't have been receiving any presents this Christmas and naturally wanted to help. This initiative has spanned all areas of the club with donations coming from the owner, staff, players, local businesses and fans alike. All at Cardiff City would like to thank those who have helped make this scheme a success and we look forward to working with the charity next season to make it bigger and better.”

The club was not alone in supporting this great course, as Hamleys in Cardiff also showed their support. The retail outlet based in St Davids 2 in town donated over £500 worth of toys to the scheme to help those in need this Christmas. Their donation was vast and even included a full size dalek which will be heading to a children’s home in South Wales where it will be enjoyed by a number of under privileged children.

Pearce Richardsfrom Hamleys said: “The Big Wrap is a fantastic cause and we were delighted to help when we were approached by the club. We were stunned to hear of the number of children in the local area there is that wouldn't normally be receiving gifts this Christmas and naturally wanted to help. We would like to commend Cardiff City and all of those from the Big Wrap for the fantastic work they have done to date. We hope that it continues for many Christmases to come.”

Cardiff City would like to thank Hamleys for their generosityin supporting this fantastic cause and helping those in need this Christmas, along with the many individual donations from fans, players and organisations across South Wales.
