“I’m delighted that we’ve picked it up recently," said the Gaffer. "We’ve had injuries during that time and even during the middle of games we’ve had to put all three subs on at some points. Overall, I’m very pleased about the application of my players.

"Young players are only put in if they’re worthy of their place, especially the couple of youngsters who’ve gone in and adapted. It’s good for the football club in the long term – this crop of youngsters are the future of this club, no matter what happens.

“I’m expecting nothing other than a tough game against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend. Last week, Bristol City went up to Middlesbrough on the back of a bad run and beat them 3-1, so anything can happen in this league and it usually does. Unless you’ve got 100% focus on the team you’re playing and ensure you cover all bases, there could be an upset at the weekend. We’ll make sure to apply ourselves the way we have done in every home game this season.”

In reference to the possibility of a few familiar faces returning to the City line-up, Malky added: “We’re expecting Don (Cowie), Kevin (McNaughton), Ben (Turner) and Andy (Taylor) all to be back involved this weekend.

"It’ll be good to get experienced heads back in. For the young players it’s about experience, a couple of the youngsters have gained invaluable experience in recent weeks. We will make sure to treat these guys in a way that I think will benefit them.

"Tommy Smith is with the rehab team doing some individual work. He probably needs a full week of high-intensity work next week, but he’s getting there. Stephen McPhail’s doing fantastic, we’ve just got to be cautious with him – some days he trains less than other days. He’s certainly getting closer and closer to being back in there with the actual group. Craig Bellamy is fully fit again though - he’ll be involved this weekend.”
