Peter Whittingham says that City's good start to the season has put them in a great position, but they need to keep the momentum going with a good result against Birmingham on Tuesday.

"Obviously I've scored a few goals but I've said all along that it's always about the results," said the playmaker.

"Winning games is the most important thing, but the more points you can take off the teams around you the better, so it's good for us to have done that. People say it's early in the season, but you need a good start in this division, and we're looking to build on that tomorrow.

"Birmingham are a good team, they know the league and have been here before, so they'll be a tough opponent. We know all about Burkey as well, and he scored a great goal at the weekend so he's definitely one to watch out for.

Whitts also reiterated Malky Mackay's recent comments about the Bluebird's excellent home form, adding: "We're in the top two now, and that's where we want to stay.

"We know it's going to be hard as it will be a tough game tomorrow, but we're on our patch and we want to build it into a fortress - so we're relishing it and can't wait for the match.

"It's brilliant for me to be scoring so many goals and, even if I don't show it with celebrations, it does mean a lot to me! I've wanted to get Cardiff up to the Premiership and it's been my aim all along, despite any speculation. I couldn't imagine anything better than achieving that this year.

"There's nothing better that hearing the fans sing your name, and when they were chanting it on Saturday it was amazing for me. I'm delighted with the Blackpool result and how things are going, but it's all about Tuesday now and kicking on from here."
