MARSHY: A PERFECT FORTNIGHT

The Scottish stopper – now City’s only ever-present in League action this season – has enjoyed a fantastic festive spell, having kept three clean sheets and conceded just one goal over the course of four wins.

Speaking at St. Andrew’s, Marshall said: “Birmingham had a lot of the ball, particularly in the first half, but they never really created chances over the course of the game to trouble us if I’m honest.

“We gave the ball away a bit too much in the first half really and may have been happy going in at 0-0 at the break on the balance of play. But I thought we took control of things a lot more in the second half and fully deserved to come away with the three points.

“Peter Whittingham is probably the best player in his position in the division – he calms our play and puts us on the front foot. Our poor possession in the opening forty-five minutes may have been down to us missing him, but I think we managed to find our consistency in the second half and were comfortable come the end.

“It’s been the perfect start to the year for us; we couldn’t have hoped for much more than where we find ourselves with the points we have. Winning four on the bounce over this Christmas/New Year spell has been fantastic, especially as I don’t think we started particularly well in any of those fixtures but still managed to come into the games, take control of them, and finish with three points each time.

“We’re in a good position going into the F.A. Cup weekend now against Macclesfield. Some of the lads will have a little break this weekend before we get back into League action against Ipswich on the 12th. We’ll be right on it and raring to go again.”
