Crunch time for the Ice Man

City's Aron Gunnarsson looks to Captain his country through crucial World Cup qualification play-off matches against Croatia, starting with the first-leg tie in Iceland tonight.

The two legged play-off to determine which team will progress to next summer's World Cup starts in Reykjavik tonight at the Laugardalsvollur Stadium, with the second-leg in Zagreb taking place the following Tuesday, 19th November 2013. Should Iceland come out on top it will see the nation to their first major finals and secure Captain Gunnarsson's place in Brazil next summer.

Already secure of next summer's trip, City midfielder Gary Medel has been called-up once again by Chile for their upcoming friendlies with England and Brazil.

Chile claimed their spot at the World Cup last month, Medel scoring in a 2-1 win over Ecuador last month to see them secure an automatic qualification spot and book their place at next summer’s Brazil finals.

Jorge Sampaoli’s side step-up their preparations for the World Cup this month with Medel traveling to London to face England at Wembley on Friday, 15th November before travelling to Canada to take on Brazil in Toronto on Tuesday, 19th November.

City midfielder Kim Bo Kyung has also been called up by South Korea for their upcoming matches against Russia and Switzerland.

Already qualified for next summer’s World Cup of course, South Korea will welcome Switzerland on Friday 15th November, before facing Russia on Monday 18th November.

These call-ups follow yesterday’s news that David Marshall has been called-up by Scotland for their upcoming friendly matches with the USA and Norway.

Marshall has been in superb form for the Bluebirds in the Premier League, form that saw him named Cardiff City Player of the Month for October via our official twitter and Facebook accounts.

City's number one has picked up eight caps for his country so far, missing out on a starting place in the Scots last World Cup qualification match against Croatia last month as Hull City's Allan McGregor took his place in goal. A thigh injury to the Hull stopper has kept him out of the squad on this occasion, with Marshall now looking to reclaim his starting berth.

Gordon Strachan's side face the USA at Hampden Park on Friday, 15th November (Kick-off 8.05pm), before traveling to Molde on Tuesday, 19th November (kick-off 7pm (local time)) to face Norway.
