Cardiff City’s development side returned to winning ways at Cardiff City Stadium on Monday, taking home the local bragging rights by defeating severnside rivals Bristol City 3-0.

Nilton Terroso fielded a strong starting eleven for this match with Kim Bo-Kyung, Declan John and Danny Johnson welcomed into the side while there was a welcome return for Wales U21 International Theo Wharton, who would have been delighted to return to action after two months out with injury.

Kadeem Harris went close with just three minutes on the clock, but he stabbed a low shot wide of goal from Kim’s cross. The away side were next to threaten, Joe Morrell’s 25-yard free kick failing to test Ben Wilson in the City goal after seven minutes.

The hosts were dominant in the opening spell and deservedly took the lead on 13 minutes, Kim Bo-Kyung’s deft pass finding Etien Velikonja, who did well to place the ball in the bottom left corner of former Bluebird Dave Richards’ net with his right foot from ten yards out.

Cardiff continued this dominance following the opening goal and were soon two goals ahead, Kim involved once more in this move supplying the low cross for fellow winger Harris to fire in from inside the area on the 20 minute mark.

Danny Johnson, recently returned from a loan spell with Tranmere Rovers, went close three minutes later with a low left footed strike that went inches wide of goal from 18 yards. Richards was called into action once more after 36 minutes, denying Johnson and Velikonja from close range with two impressive close range saves.

Kim Bo-Kyung’s was withdrawn on the hour mark following an impressive showing and he almost helped City increase their advantage just before being replaced by Anthony Bell, playing the ball down the left side for Johnson, whose stinging left footed shot was saved well by Richards.

Johnson was lively throughout the match and got his rewards after 62 minutes, with undoubtedly a goal of the month contender. Danny picking the ball up 30 yards from goal before hitting a superb thunderbolt past Richards to secure the win for Cardiff in style.
