WHITTS DISCUSSES TEAM PREPARATION AS BRENTFORD VISIT CCS

Club News

Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham talked preparations, gameplans and the pressures of having such a strong squad in Friday morning’s press and media conference ahead of this weekend’s visit of Brentford to Cardiff City Stadium.

The longest-serving member of Russell Slade’s playing squad drew comparisons between the Bees and last week’s opponents, league leaders AFC Bournemouth. He also urged his teammates to make a marked improvement on their performance at the Goldsands a week ago, with Mark Warburton’s Brentford another side impressing against pundit’s predictions at the top of the table.

“Brentford are a very similar side to Bournemouth, in that they want to play and they want to pass the ball,” Whittingham said. “That’s something we’ve got to be aware of. We’ve spent the week looking at how they play, and at the players we need to watch out for, and it’s up to us now to carry out that gameplan.

“It’s going to be hard on us when we don’t win games because of the amount of quality that we’ve got in this squad. The team that goes out there every single game is a very good team, one that should be winning in this division, so we know it will be harsh on us if we don’t win games. For that reason it’s up to us to be winning.

“We need to start well; we haven’t really done that in many of our games this season. I think at home especially, even if we don’t start well, the fans get right behind us, and at Cardiff City Stadium we can be a real force, as we’ve shown with our results at home so far this season.”
