LE FONDRE: STRENGTH IN DEPTH

Striker enjoying early life as a Bluebird

City front man Adam Le Fondre is looking forward to the competition that a talented and wide selection of strikers will bring to the Bluebirds for the 2014-15 campaign.

Arriving from Reading in the summer, Le Fondre joined the Cardiff City striking ranks alongside fellow newcomers Federico Macheda and Javi Guerra - all adding further strength to a department already awash with talent.

Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player at the teams Austrian base in Walchsee, he said: “I think the more the better, it brings the best out of you and the amount of goals it looks like we’ve got can only be good for us.

“I’m a double figures player, I’m sure Nicky’s a double figures player, Joe Mason is and Kiko (Federico Macheda) last season was with Javi Guerra doing the same in La Liga. Then you have Kenwyne Jones and Etien Velikonja as well.

“These weeks are great for team bonding. It’s about getting in that routine that you’ll be part of this squad for the season. That’s what you’ve got to build, that spirit, especially in the Championship because it is going to be tested at times. We’re going to need the resilience of the boys to get us through that.”

For any striker, getting off the mark for a new club is a first objective, one Adam successfulyl achieved on Saturday as he netted a third in the Bluebirds 3-0 victory over KS Teuta Durres.

“It’s nice to score early and get that first goal out of the way,” said Adam. “It’s the league that obviously matters the most but as a striker, getting on a run early doors is pivotal in what you’ll do earlier on in the season.

“The boys who played in the first game must have lost about 2000 calories, it really was boiling hot - it’s such a contrast from then and now that you would think you were in two different places. It’s a good training camp here and I think the current conditions have perhaps helped us a little more than it being hot.”
