The Bluebirds will look to get their campaign off to the best of starts as they travel to Blackburn Rovers and Ewood Park on Friday 8th August for the opening Football League fixture of the new season. The difficult start is then followed with home ties against Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic, before away trips to Wolves and Fulham in a fixture packed August.

Giving his reaction to City’s opening fixtures, the City skipper said: “Our first game will be a good test for us because they (Blackburn Rovers) finished the season really well. We’ve got some good memories from playing up there a few years ago, getting a 4-1 win. It’s been a year or two since then though of course so it’ll be a good test.

“We’ve got to be prepared, but our aim is to clinch one of those top two promotion places. There will be no easy games, as everyone presents a different challenge. We need to ensure that we’ll be up for it.

“Teams like Brentford and Rotherham are always going to be tough opponents, no matter what league we’re in. We know that and need to be prepared for it if we want to get out of this league and return to the Premier League.”

Preparations for the 2014-15 Sky Bet Championship season are already well underway at Cardiff City Stadium, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær moving quickly in the transfer market to bring five fresh faces to his squad already this summer.

And in new arrivals Adam Le Fondre, Federico Macheda, Guido Burgstaller, Javi Guerra and Kagisho Dikgacoi Hudson is looking forward to getting the squad back together for pre-season with a return to training now just a few weeks away.

“We can focus and grow together as a group throughout pre-season and make sure that we are ready for that first game,” he said on BBC Radio Wales’ Sport show on Wednesday night – the influential club captain looking forward to a return to Cardiff City action after a spell on the sidelines last season.

“We’ve got some excellent attacking options, the players that have been added look exciting and there’s plenty of experience of the Championship in there as well. It can only help us.

“The manager has been busy this summer and has done a lot of business very early, which shows how eager he is to get his squad together as soon as possible. The main thing is that we’ve got to stick together and focus on what is the job in hand. It’s an incredibly tough league to get out of and we’ve got to be prepared and be consistent throughout the year.”
