Gary Medel, Aron Gunnarsson and Mats Moller Daehli involved in weekend Internationals

The weekend saw a number of Cardiff City International’s involved for their countries as nations step up their preparations for the upcoming 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Saturday night saw Gary Medel and Chile play the first of two preparation matches with a first World Cup group match against Australia just 11 days away. City star Medel played the full ninety minutes for ‘La Roja’ as a double from Valencia’s Eduardo Vargas helped them to a 3-2 win over Egypt in Santiago.

Preparations continue on Thursday, 5th June as Medel and Chile take on Northern Ireland in Valparaiso.

Having narrowly missed out on a World Cup place through the play-offs, the upcoming European qualifiers were the focus for Aron Gunnarsson and Iceland as they took on Austria in Innsbruck on Friday evening.

Playing the full 90 minutes Gunnarsson captained his country to a 1-1 draw, while recent recruit Guido Burgstaller missed out for Austria. Both could feature in upcoming friendlies this week as Austria travel to the Czech Republic on Tuesday while Iceland play host to Estonia on Wednesday.

Elsewhere Norway’s Mats Møller Dæhli added to a recent appearance against France to face Russia in Oslo on Saturday evening, playing the first-half of the Norwegian’s 1-1 draw with Brazil bound Russia.
