CARDIFF CITY 2014 RETAIN LIST

Club News

Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that senior squad members Craig Bellamy, Tommy Smith and Simon Lappin are set to depart the club at the end of their contracts. As reported, Don Cowie is also out of contract this summer and is currently considering a new offer.

Hometown hero Craig leaves Cardiff City following his second spell at the club, having announced his retirement from playing on Thursday.

Tommy Smith joined the club in 2012, making twenty six appearances in all competitions in our promotion year. An influential member of the squad, both on and off the field, Tommy scored his only goal, an impressive winner away at Blackpool in January 2013.

Simon Lappin initially joined on loan from Norwich in November 2012 before making a permanent switch the following January. He made two appearances for the Bluebirds in the Championship 2012/13 promotion year, while last season he made 12 appearances on loan at Sheffield United during a three month loan spell at Bramall Lane.

Also leaving the club with our best wishes and thanks are junior professionals Luke Coulson and Ronnie Hawkins; both players now able to secure their futures with other clubs. Fellow development squad regulars Anthony Bell, Gethyn Hill and Kane Owen have all been offered contract extensions.

As previously reported, six players from the Academy, namely Tyler Roach, Macauley Southam, David Tutonda, Ben Watkins, Curtis Watkins and Bradley Wickham have also been offered professional contracts.

All at Cardiff City would like to very much thank our departing players for their professionalism, hard work and contribution to the club. We wish them the very best for their future careers.
