Stant hat-trick and Griffith brace secure win at Arms Park

On this Cardiff City Day in 1993, a Phil Stant hat-trick and Cohen Griffith brace saw the Bluebirds claim a 5-0 victory over Rhyl in the Welsh Cup Final.

Played at Cardiff Arms Park in front of a 16,443 crowd the Bluebirds were convincing winners on the day to top off what had been a fantastic 1992-93 season under manager Eddie May having already won the Third Division championship and promotion to Division Two.

Star on the day Stant enjoyed a prolific two year spell with the Bluebirds having arrived at Ninian Park from Mansfield Town in December 1992. The Bolton born frontman made 98 appearances for City in all competitions scoring 43 goals.

Stints at Bury, Lincoln City, Brighton & Hove Albion and numerous non-league clubs followed for Stant before taking up a management role at Lincoln City in 2000, also featuring as a player-manager for Gainsborough Trinity and Ilkeston Town since.

The former Cardiff City forward now focuses his efforts in youth development, working in College Academies whilst also acting as a youth development monitor for the Football League.
