While an unbeaten pre-season has given every indication of success for the Bluebirds this year, the omens also look good for a positive City start upon flicking through the history books…

HOME COMFORTS

City are unbeaten in the last seven of their opening home matches of the season. The last three years have seen two victories over Huddersfield Town sandwich the Bluebirds’ famous defeat of Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League. Before that, Mark Hudson, Craig Conway and Robert Earnshaw were the scorers in a 3-1 Severnside Derby victory over Bristol City in 2011.

Meanwhile, City fans will also have fond memories of 2009, when Michael Chopra’s brace, a Jay Bothroyd strike and Peter Whittingham’s penalty secured a 4-0 win over Scunthorpe United on a beautiful summer’s day in the capital – a textbook perfect start, and the very first competitive action on CCS soil.

Indeed you have to go back to a 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City in 2007 to find our last loss on the opening home tie of a campaign, while we have won ten and drawn three of fifteen such fixtures since the turn of the millennium!

THE OPPOSITION

After finishing the 2014/15 Championship season in seventeenth place, Fulham will be desperate to be competing at the other end of the table in the coming year.

The Whites’ boss Kit Symons steadied the ship superbly after his October introduction last time out, and has recently provided an extra boost by relinquishing his Wales coaching duties to commit his full-time future to the Club.

They’ve recruited well over the summer too, as the highly-rated Tom Cairney and Ben Pringle, of Blackburn Rovers and Rotherham United respectively, have joined the likes of Wales international Jazz Richards and Bolton stopper Andy Lonergan at the Cottage.

Our last encounter saw a 1-0 home win on January 10th as City returned to their traditional blue shirts at CCS. In fact, we are unbeaten in four meetings with the Cottagers, as two wins in 2013/14 constituted Cardiff City’s first top-flight double since 1961.
