RUSSELL: WE MUST TURN THE DRAWS INTO WINS

Manager looks for victory over Blackburn after back to back draws

Russell Slade spoke to the assembled press & media in the wake of Cardiff City’s 0-0 draw with Brighton on Tuesday evening.

Both sides defended stoically, though neither could find a breakthrough in the midweek Sky Bet Championship clash.

“We cancelled each other out in the first period,” Russell admitted. “We had the same shape, which we sorted out in the second half – showing more intent. We had a couple of decent chances through Kenwyne Jones and Aron Gunnarsson though it was a tight game all evening.

“At this moment in time our formation will depend on the opposition but I would like to be playing with a No. 10, a striker and two wide players when I can. We need to make sure we don’t get outnumbered in midfield though – something we’ve addressed by placing an extra man in there at times."

The Bluebirds' next clash is this coming Tuesday - at home to Blackburn Rovers - and in the Manager's eyes, represents a great opportunity to push forward.

“It was important that we earned a clean sheet [against Brighton], though I’m disappointed that we couldn’t grab a goal," he admitted. "Neither side could play between the lines because the midfield was so packed – it was difficult to maneuver the ball at times. We need to build against Blackburn after back to back draws.

"We have another chance next Tuesday to move forward and create some belief. There have been positives in the past two games; we are not however, the finished article.”

“If we can grab back-to-back wins then the picture changes immediately in this division. We believe and we are positive that in our next challenge we can get three points.
