LONDON TO AMSTERDAM CHALLENGE: ONE WEEK TO GO

Club News

Just one week remains now for our Bluebirds team to prepare, with the Football League's 'London to Amsterdam Challenge' looming ever closer.

As revealed back in March, in association with the Football League and Prostate Cancer UK, ten members of Cardiff City Staff will be taking on the challenge of cycling from London to Amsterdam over a two day period.

The behemoth 145-mile task in front of the Bluebirds team isn’t being taken lightly according to former City defender and rider Damon Searle: “The whole team is really looking forward to the challenge ahead, though the furthest I’ve ever been on a bike before was probably on my BMX as a kid to the shops for bread and milk!

“Joking aside, one-in-eight men from the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives. While the cycle will be a challenge to each person involved, and it might be difficult to raise over £10,000, the bigger picture is undoubtedly raising awareness and money for Prostate Cancer UK and we are determined to achieve this as a team.”

260 riders will represent the Football League throughout this testing cycle including former England international (and current Newport County boss) Terry Butcher, Preston North End manager Simon Grayson and many more familiar names. The Bluebirds team are aiming to finish as high up the league table on sponsorship as possible with all generous support truly appreciated.

Bluebirds Chief Executive Officer, Ken Choo added his delight at the support already shown to the cause: “On behalf of myself and the other riders, we’d like to thank our friends at Tredz for their backing ahead of this challenge, loaning expert bikes to the squad in an attempt to aid our quest to Holland. A big thank you also to local companies LDS Motors and RIM Motors, who have joined club chairman Mehmet Dalman and Jeffrey Dalman with kind hearted sponsorship donations.”

You can also donate to the Bluebirds cause by visiting the Just Giving page or texting ‘70070’ with the code ‘CARD91’ followed by the amount you’d like to donate, e.g. ‘CARD91 £5’. All donations are truly appreciated!
