The House of Sport Legacy: Phase Three
Planned to open in September 2015, phase three of the House of Sport will build on an already impressive legacy by providing a strong, sustainable asset for the good of the local community.
Situated within view of Cardiff City Stadium, the House of Sport began as a single site state-of-the-art indoor venue in November 2010. Used by the Academy, Community and Education Foundation and at times the senior Cardiff City squad, the all-weather 3G pitch has proven to be an invaluable asset to many. The warm welcome and high quality facilities on offer have also made the House of Sport a popular destination for many grass roots teams since its opening day.
Recognising the need to expand, in April 2013 Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Steve Borley officially opened phase two of the project – an impressive polyurethane (multi-sport) facility, which also houses members of the Cardiff City Community and Education Foundation. The adjoining venue features a 63m x 42m space, suitable to accommodate sports such as Futsal, basketball, netball, handball, volleyball and disability sports. Of note, the venue has also hosted the Celtic Dragons netball team, amongst others. The reviews and testimonials, as can be seen on the House of Sport website are impressive, outlining both the amenities and superior service on offer.
Continuing the building process and offering even more community benefits, phase three of the project is next in the calendar. The additional building will sit along the existing two facilities and will further enhance and complement the House of Sport model through the addition of sports courts / pitches, which will accommodate tennis and roller sports as well as acting as an overflow arena for House of Sport 2.
Speaking of the facility and ethos at the venue, Business Development Manager Joanna Borley said, “The philosophy behind the House of Sport is creation, not duplication. I’m thrilled by the forthcoming addition of phase three as this will essentially be providing a fantastic opportunity for even more community sports that do not currently have access to suitable facilities in the City.
“I am especially looking forward to viewing the positive impact on both tennis and roller sport in terms of greater participation numbers, which will be a direct result of our new facility. Not only used by professional teams, the House of Sport encourages and warmly welcomes high volumes of grassroots clubs, corporate bookings, charity events and general bookings.
