MATCH PREVIEW: CARDIFF CITY vs MK DONS

Match Previews

Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
Date: Saturday 6th February 2016, 3pm K.O.

After securing back-to-back away wins last weekend, the Bluebirds take on MK Dons in the hunt for another three points at Cardiff City Stadium.

THE OPPOSITION

MK Dons
travel to South Wales currently sitting just one point off the drop-zone in the Sky Bet Championship.

Saturday afternoon will see their attention shift back to League action, following their FA Cup Fourth Round exit to Chelsea last weekend.

While Carl Baker, Ben Reeves and Matt Upson will miss the match as they continue their injury recoveries, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas could feature for the Dons for the first time following his deadline day loan move from Queens Park Rangers.

CLUB CONNECTIONS

Of course, the Dons signed striker Alex Revell from the Bluebirds on deadline day, whilst also borrowing former Bluebird Emmanuel-Thomas from QPR.

The new additions have made it a hat-trick of former City attackers at stadium mk, with Nicky Maynard already among Karl Robinson’s ranks. Maynard has impressed this year, scoring four goals in all competitions, including one against City on Boxing Day.

Former City star Joe Ledley made his professional début against MK Dons back in 2004 – when he was still cleaning the boots of skipper Graham Kavanagh. You can read the full story of Joe's City début here.

MEMORABLE MEETING
MK Dons 1-4 Cardiff City
21st September 2004, National Hockey Stadium, League Cup Second Round

The first meeting between Cardiff City and MK Dons came in September 2004, as Joe Ledley came off the bench to make his début in a 4-1 City victory at the National Hockey Stadium.

Lee Bullock’s goal and a Peter Thorne brace put City 3-0 up by the 21st minute of the League Cup Second Round encounter. Bluebirds youngster Byron Anthony then made it four in the second half, with Izale McLeod netting a late Dons consolation.

City went on to beat AFC Bournemouth in the next round before bowing out to Premier League Portsmouth.
