FA CUP PREVIEW: CARDIFF CITY v SHREWSBURY TOWN

Match Previews

Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
Date: Sunday, 10th January 2016. 6pm kick-off.

City take on League One Shrewsbury Town at Cardiff City Stadium in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round.

THE OPPOSITION

It’s been a busy week for Shrewsbury Town since their 7-1 League thrashing by Chesterfield last weekend. The following days have seen club captain Liam Lawrence depart, along with leading scorer James Collins and fellow striker Tyrone Barnett.

The Shrews have also looked to recruit, bringing in Jack Grimmer for his second loan spell from Fulham, whilst extending the stay of Cottagers midfielder Larnell Cole. Andy Mangan has also returned to the club from Tranmere Rovers.

An injury to Abu Ogogo and Junior Brown’s suspension means that a new-look side could be on show at CCS for Micky Mellon’s men, who are currently in 20th place in League One.

CLUB CONNECTIONS

Former Bluebird Liam Lawrence completed his move from Shrewsbury Town to Bristol Rovers on Thursday. The midfielder made a total of fifteen appearances in a City shirt, scoring the winner in a Sky Bet Championship clash away to Barnsley.

Nevertheless, there could still be a returning Bluebird on Sunday evening, as Anthony Gerrard now plies his trade with Salop. The centre-half could be a doubt, after picking up an injury last weekend, but will surely be keen to line-up in front of the City faithful again.

Our last meeting with Salop came this pre-season, as Russell Slade’s men played out a 2-2 draw at the Greenhous Meadow. Joe Mason and Anthony Pilkington were both on the score-sheet in the friendly match, prior to James Collins’ 85th minute leveller.
