RUSSELL | SATURDAY WAS A HUGE THREE POINTS

Club News

On Saturday, the Bluebirds recorded a crucial victory over play-off rivals Ipswich Town in the race for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship. A first half header from Bruno Manga proved to be the difference between the two sides in the spring sunshine at Cardiff City Stadium.

Shortly after the final whistle Russell Slade offered his thoughts to the assembled press and media.

“It’s a big win,” began Russell. “The three points are huge to us, it’s all about the results at this time in the season and we were able to grind it out today. We played really well on Tuesday against Leeds United and we collected nothing for our efforts.

“Today was a different type of game that asked different questions of us, against a really direct, efficient team. We had to defend really well and that was extremely pleasing.

“We’ve got a few more teams to play in and around us before the end of the season, matches against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby and Birmingham. They are going to be big, big games.

“We can only control what we’re doing, we can’t control what goes on in matches around the country. But if we get a positive result and our rivals don’t, that can bring a real lift and add to the momentum heading towards the end of the season.”
