Morrison: Our biggest strength is our togetherness

Club News

A goal-scoring, Man-of-the-Match performance from Sean Morrison drove City towards a crucial three points at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.

The Bluebirds skipper opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season: this, a bullet header past Forest ‘keeper Stefanos Kapino from the returning Joe Ralls’ pinpoint corner delivery.

City, who remain second in the Championship following the weekend’s fixtures, have three games remaining, starting with the re-arranged trip to Derby County on Tuesday evening.

“It’s all about results now,” Sean told iFollow Cardiff City. “Prior to this evening, we knew that three wins from our remaining four games would do the job. It’s about ticking them off, one by one, but there are no easy games in this league.

“Forest are a good team, but the boys defended well, and we put the ball in the net when it mattered.

“We’ve dug in when it’s mattered this season and the three points were the most important thing tonight. Now we look forward to Derby. I don’t mind the three-game weeks; it’s tough on the body and mind but I like to get the games done.

“We’ll rest up and recover for Derby now and try and bring back the three points.”

Six points from three remaining fixtures would be enough for the Bluebirds, with a trip to Hull City next Saturday, and a home clash with Reading on final day, coming on the back of Tuesday’s trip to Pride Park.

Character will be key over the course of the remaining 270-plus minutes of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season: a factor that Sean is only too aware of.

“We need to dig in, be professional and do our jobs,” he continued.

“Junior [Hoilett] said last week that we are like a family and he’s right. We’re all in this together and that comes from the Gaffer and staff. Our biggest strength is the togetherness in this team.

“We’ve got to crack on again now on Tuesday.”
